EN Reached their 12th edition, the Summer Workshops of Architecture that conclude Iuav’s academic year have now earned an international reputation.
Their program involves about 2000 students led by 30 teachers and tutors who will be engaged in 30 design workshops located in the former cotton mill of S. Marta and in the former Magazzini Ligabue warehouses. The whole set forms a great and unique design event, enriched by debates and conferences, which will be held in three weeks from the 1st to the 19th of July.
In the previous editions, starting in 2002, the workshops hosted the best designers in action on the world stage. The 2013 edition aims at strengthening this international breathe, by opening the workshop to 150 external students, for the first time, while assuring a wider participation of foreign teachers.
This year’s guests come from the emerging nations in the international architectural debate, such as South Africa, Chile, China, Colombia, Brazil, Australia, Paraguay and from “historical” locations of contemporary architecture such as Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Germany and the United States. Alongside this foreign contributors the workshops will present a selection of Italian architects, belonging to different generations, and a selected group of Iuav’s professors.
The architectural theme proposed to the architects from all over the world regards the industrial area of Porto Marghera, “Another Venice” that looks at the historical city and is an important part of the modern history of the lagoon.

IT Giunti alla loro 12° edizione, i Workshop estivi d’Architettura che concludono l’anno scolastico Iuav si sono ormai conquistati una notorietà internazionale.
Il loro programma prevede il coinvolgimento, in contemporanea, di circa 2000 studenti guidati da 30 docenti e tutor che saranno impegnati in altrettanti laboratori di progetto dislocati negli spazi dell’ex Cotonificio di S. Marta e degli ex Magazzini. L’insieme si configura come un grande evento progettuale, unico nel suo genere, arricchito da dibattiti e conferenze, che si svilupperà nell’arco di tre settimane dall’1 al 19 luglio.
Nel corso delle edizioni che si sono annualmente succedute, a partire dal 2002, hanno partecipato i migliori progettisti in azione sulla scena mondiale. Per l’edizione 2013 si è voluto ulteriormente rafforzare l’aspetto internazionale, sia aprendo per la prima volta gli workshop alla partecipazione di 150 studenti esterni e sia puntando su di una più ampia partecipazione di docenti stranieri.
Gli invitati dell’edizione 2013 provengono da nazioni emergenti nel dibattito architettonico internazionale come il Sudafrica, il Cile, la Cina, la Colombia, il Brasile, l’Australia, il Paraguay e da sedi “storiche” dell’architettura contemporanea come il Portogallo, la Spagna, la Svizzera, la Germania, gli Stati Uniti. Insieme ad essi sarà presente una selezione di architetti italiani, appartenenti a generazioni diverse, ed una rappresentanza di docenti Iuav.
Il tema di progetto proposto agli architetti di tutto il mondo riguarda l’area industriale di Porto Marghera; l’“Altra Venezia” che guarda al nucleo storico e rappresenta una parte importante della storia moderna della città lagunare.
