EN The workshop programs of Sandra Giraudi and Tamassociati have been updated in the Guests section. Both workshops will address the relationship with immigration in the port of Marghera. In this regard stands the incredible story of the Kawkab, an Egyptian ship abandoned by the owner in Porto Marghera from 2002 to 2004 with eight people on board. This “still odyssey” was the subject of a documentary by Andrea Segre, Marghera Canale Nord, which describes the life in trap of the ship crew and tells us how this story is by no means isolated: only in Italy every year there are 300 similar cases. The lives of the sailors are told in all their absurdity: the lack of electricity and heating, the only food brought by Caritas on daily visits, the possibility to disembark for just six hours each day…
“We are not dealing, with emblematic cases to stigmatize but rather with human beings with their needs and dreams, that the absurdity of the situation in which they find themselves in is unable to brake. We feel very close to these men, prisoners of a ship, of the bureaucracy and of the laws of profit.They seek to protect at all costs, their dreams, their desires, their own little quirks. Their story, in some way, also becomes our story. These eight sailors have names, families, loves. Someone has an amazing passion for Juventus, someone else a marked predilection for the American songs of the fifties.”

Entrambi i workshop tratteranno il rapporto con l’immigrazione nell’area portuale di Marghera. Segnaliamo a questo proposito l’incredibile vicenda della Kawkab, nave egiziana abbandonata dall’armatore a Porto Marghera con a bordo otto persone dal 2002 al 2004. Da questa “odissea immobile” è nato il documentario di Andrea Segre, Marghera Canale Nord che descrive la vita in trappola dell’equipaggio della nave e segnala come la vicenda non sia affatto isolata: solo in Italia esistono ogni anno 300 casi simili. La vita dei marinai è narrata in tutta la sua assurdità: la mancanza di luce e riscaldamento, il sostentamento grazie alla visita giornaliera della Caritas, la possibilità di scendere per sole sei ore al giorno…
“Non siamo di fronte, quindi, a casi emblematici da stigmatizzare ma piuttosto a esseri umani con le loro necessità e i loro sogni, che la situazione assurda nella quale si trovano non riesce a frenare. Ci sentiamo vicinissimi a questi uomini, prigionieri di una nave, della burocrazia e delle leggi del profitto, che cercano di proteggere a ogni costo i propri sogni, i propri desideri, le proprie piccole manie. La loro storia, in qualche modo, diventa anche la nostra storia. Questi otto marinai hanno dei nomi, delle famiglie, degli amori. Qualcuno ha una sorprendente passione per la Juventus, qualcun altro una spiccata predilezione per le canzoni americane degli anni Cinquanta.”
